Minutes of The Lavallette Voters and Taxpayers Meeting June 18, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Marcianti. Also present were 1st V.P.
Lach Cameron, Treasurer Alice Bass, Secretary Celeste Brockwell, and Directors Ann Gorga,
Sara Ardito, Joe Ardito and Emil Naurez.
The Minutes and Treasurer's Report were accepted as read.
Membership: 744 paid members of which 165 are new members and 15 from
Bay Beach Way.
LVT proposed dinner: 120 families were interested in LVT having a Dinner.
Correspondence:
- A Philadelphia Ave. resident requested that Badge Checkers and Lifeguards not park on the ocean block. Instead, the resident suggested that they park across the highway and leave spaces for those who cannot walk as far.
LVT supported this suggestion and wrote a letter to Mayor and Council
- Illegal dumping of sump pump discharge into the sewer system continues to cost all ratepayers more money. LVT wrote a letter to Mayor and Council to be more vigilant in identifying the violators and imposing stiffer penalties to discourage this practice.
- LVT received a Thank You note from Allison Gorga for the $500 scholarship awarded to her.
Municipal:
- LVT will file an OPRA request with the Borough to review the agreement between the Borough and the annexation of Bay Beach Way. There are concerns that the Borough did not acquire the Beach and the Street resulting in the residents of Bay Beach Way privately owning both.
- LVT will also file an OPRA request to acquire employee salaries and contracts.
- Dogs on the beach are prohibited by ordinance, but remain a persistent problem. The Council advised residents to call the Police.
- 332 Tickets were issued by police on Memorial Day Weekend.
- $95,000 per each bond ordinance was approved by the Council for improvements to the boardwalk and Borough energy improvements.
- Final reading for an ordinance was approved by Council for a "cafeteria plan" for employee medical insurance.
- The Council discussed pedestrian safety with passage of the new state ordinance requiring drivers to stop at marked intersections for pedestrian crossing which has caused some safety issues.
Approval of LVT bills:
$424.79 for Liability Insurance, $72 for P.O. Box Rental
