Minutes of the LVT meeting of April 16, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Marcianti. Officers and Directors present
were 1st Vice President Lach Cameron, Secretary Celeste Brockwell, Directors
Ann Gorga, Joe Ardito and Sara Ardito. Absent was Treasurer Alice Bass.
Minutes and Treasurer's report were accepted as read.
Correspondence:
- Concerns with street flooding, affects of snowstorms and power outages from absentee owner. Would like mechanism where absentee owners could be informed of these issues.
- Glass and trash near the Lifeguard Headquarters was a concern for a resident near this location.
- Compliments on the great job LVT is doing keeping residents informed
- Thank you from the McCallum family for Holiday Decorating Contest award.
- Letter from resident against sale of Lavallette Ave.
- Inquiries into how to purchase beach badges
- Resident hopes additional income from annexation of Bay Beach Way will be used to reduce taxes
- Concerns with high sewer bills
- Annoyance with dogs on our beach. Ordinance against this needs enforcement.
- Announcement of the geranium sale by the Ladies Fire Auxiliary.
Membership: 516 paid members of which 159 are new members and 14 are from
soon-to-be annexed Bay Beach Way.
Municipal:
- The municipal budget has not been passed yet. May be a first reading at the next Council meeting.
- Announcement by the Mayor that the Developer withdrew his interest in buying Lavallette Ave.
- Chief of Police is in the process of surveying areas of stop signs in preparation for recommendations to shortening distances to recreate more parking
- June 5th and 6th Town-wide garage sale
- May 7th Beach Badges go on sale
- Seasonal beach employees salaries will be frozen at 2009 rates
- Long-time Lifeguard Captain was not rehired.
- Purchase of a new bucket truck for $86,069.
- Manager of the electrical dept. has given his notice to leave and a replacement is being sought
School:
School Board election is Tuesday April 20th from 2-9 p.m. One Board seat available-uncontested.
The total school budget is $3,900,350. The amount to be raised locally is $3,521,000. School
taxes will increase about $108 for an average assessment of $687,000. School enrollment is
122 Lavallette students, 28 tuition students and 59 High School students.
Scholarship committee: The deadline for receipt of scholarship applications in a post-mark
of April 30th
LVT Nominating Committee:
Nomination for President one year: Joe Marcianti
Directors for 2 years 2010-2012: Sara Ardito, Lach Cameron, Ann Gorga and Emil Naurez
Discussion:
Sewer bills: Residents disgusted with high sewer bills and increased rates.
LVT will seek information from the Borough.
Parking distances from stop signs: LVT will send a letter to the Mayor reiterating that this
is the second letter on this subject and would like a written response as to the timetable for
decreasing the distances from stop signs to recreate more parking spaces.
Police: need more visibility and enforcement especially speeders on Route 35 and bikers
traveling in the wrong direction. Concern with number of break-ins in the recent past and need
for residents to be informed so they can be aware for themselves and neighbors.
