Minutes of the Lavallette Voters and Taxpayers Meeting of February 19, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Marcianti. All Officers and Directors were
present: Lach Cameron, Alice Bass, Celeste Brockwell, Ann Gorga, Joe Ardito and Sara Ardito.
The minutes and Treasurer's report were accepted as read.
The 2010 budget was presented to the membership by Treasurer Alice Bass and adopted.
The audit report was presented by President Joe Marcianti and approved.
Membership: 74 paid memberships were reported with 15 new memberships.
Municipal:
- Residents of Bay Beach Way thanked the Council for moving forward on the annexation. The properties have not yet been assessed. It is not known whether the extra income will affect the budget for this year.
- Several options were presented to the Council by the builders who want to buy a portion of Lavallette Ave. from the Borough for the purpose of expanding the land into the area where a portion of the street now exists.
- Department of Public works needs the Chief of Police's approval to make changes to the parking distances from stop signs from 50' to 25'.
- The county wants to consolidate tax collections and assessments with Lavallette.
- The ordinance to change the number of uses and square footage requirements in the business district has not yet been completed or published as of February 8, 2010.
- Additional bonding of $85,500 to fund a portion of the cost to improve the sewer system was approved on first reading.
- Approval of a bond ordinance for $50,000 with additional funds from a state grant was passed on second reading to make improvements to New Brunswick Ave. The total cost of the project is about $200,000.
- The County would like Lavallette to develop a business registry for local businesses. It appears that the town has developed the ordinance some years ago, but never put finalized it. The cost to register would be $25 per business.
- Electric rates may be slightly lower to due cheaper buying power.
- Sewer rates may increase due to increased infiltration.
School: Concerned about the cuts to be made by the Governor; School report cards will go online before the end of the year.
Expenditures to pay LVT bills were approved:
- $1,551.81 for the printing and mailing of the LVT winter Newsletter
- $300 for the year for the web manager
- Not to exceed $500 to put member list on disk for e-mail purposes
Lavallette Business Association (LBA): concerned with snow blocking the business district. Need alternate side
of the street parking to clear snow. Need to hire people to shovel and need list of contractors to shovel driveways.
Scholarship committee appointed: Joe Marcianti, Joe Ardito and Sara Ardito. The criteria will be the same as last year.
Criteria and applications will be on our website beginning March 1st. A press release will be sent to The Ocean Star
newspaper and letters will be sent to Point Pleasant Beach High School and Monsignor Donovan High School.
