Minutes of the Lavallette Voters and Taxpayers Meeting of November 20, 2009
The meeting was called to order by LVT Director Joe Ardito. Present were
1st Vice-President Lach Cameron, Treasurer Alice Bass, Secretary Celeste Brockwell
and Director Sara Ardito. Absent were President Joe Marcianti and Director Ann Gorga.
Minutes and Treasurer's Report were accepted as read.
Membership: 700 families
Correspondence: The Lavallette Ladies Fire Auxiliary is having a holiday wreath sale
on December 4th and 5th. Wreaths are 22 inches decorated with a red velvet bow, berries and
pinecones from Maine. Cost is $20. For more information contact Marilyn at 732-793-1960.
Municipal:
- A bond ordinance was passed for Grand Central Ave. sidewalk beautification appropriating $600,000 and authorizing the issuance of $112,000 in bonds and notes to finance a portion of the costs.
- Beach Badges will go on sale in November 2009 for the 2010 summer season
- Discussed at the Sept. 28th council meeting, a stringent penalty for mixing garbage with recycling including a prison term.
- Data gathering for the 2010 census was discussed with the emphasis on residents giving complete and accurate information. Those residents wintering in Florida need to fill out the census survey.
- Autopay system is in effect which allows residents to have their bank accounts debited to pay taxes and utilities.
- The use of the Gazebo for weddings was discussed and its related problems.
- Annexation of Bay Beach Way to Lavallette in January 2010 is a goal of the council.
- Adoption of an amendment to an ordinance related to Motor Vehicle Storage on property put controls on idle storage of vehicles on property, doing mechanical work on vehicles and the use of vehicles on property for storing materials.
- A suggestion was made to make Lavallette more "military friendly" as other towns have done along the barrier island by encouraging local business' to give discounts and for the Borough to provide beach badges free of charge.
The Borough's Parking Committee is inactive and have not met for over a year.
School: Parents are being informed about the Swine Flu Shot and leaving it up to the parents to
make the decision.
Several small schools have consolidated in Atlantic County-the voters in the
affected municipalities have to approve the consolidation.
An LVT Budget Committee was appointed: Joe Marcianti, Alice Bass, Celeste Brockwell and
Lach Cameron.
The LVT Holiday Decorating Contest will be December 19th. Prizes will be $100, $50. and $25.
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Bike safety continues to be an issue; needs to be enforcement
Commercial vehicles parking on the streets was questioned.
