Minutes of the Lavallette Voters an Taxpayers Meeting of July 26, 2009
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Marcianti. All other Officers and Directors were present:
Lach Cameron, Alice Bass, Celeste Brockwell, Ann Gorga, Joe Ardito and Sara Ardito.
The Minutes and Treasurer's Report were accepted as read.
Membership: 664 paid members
Correspondence:
- Thank you from Kristen Yorkanis one of LVT's Scholarship recipients
- Letter and info. from Walter Boright re: OPRA requests for monetary settlements made by municipalities
- LBA asks for help selling t-shirts at summer flea markets
- Mum sale in September by the Ladies Fire Auxiliary
Municipal:
- Discussion of geese and noise and exhaust from ice cream trucks. License for Veterans for ice cream trucks are issued by the State, not the Borough.
- "Save Barnegat Bay" run fundraising success. Borough received $3,000 to be divided by PBA, First Aid and Fire Department.
- "Porch Light Program" gives free light bulb to residents as energy-saving measure. Use of mercury in the bulbs is an issue if breakage occurs.
- Giant Clam Program to bring awareness to clean up Barnegat Bay
- Beach Badge Sales are reported to be $51,000 ahead of last year. Daily badges up 64% due to better monitoring by and of Beach Badge Checkers.
- The Asbury Park Press has requested payroll amounts for all Borough employees. There is a dispute with The Press related to the cost by the Borough of $150.
- Citizen complained that bicycles riding the wrong way is worst than last year
- Storm drain on Route 35 North and Reese Ave. to be repaired.
- Approval of Municipal Budget
- Police Chief does not see a need for a traffic light on Route 35 N and NY Ave.
LVT Dinner on hold: Due to some issues of getting a place to accommodate over 100 people, further planning of the LVT dinner was postponed. The school would have been ideal, but would not allow alcohol.
Other business:
- The August LVT meeting will be cancelled
- The Board will have a planning meeting to organize for Heritage Day
- LVT's annual President's report will be on our website and sent to The Ocean Star.
- Bay Beach Way residents are seceding to join Lavallette-not finalized; may have further challenges by Toms River. Lavallette should present pros and cons; real costs. etc? Lavallette should also acquire their Beaches and roads. If Bay Beach Way residents are successful in seceding to Lavallette, LVT will send them a letter inviting them to join our Association.
- October 20th, LVT Director Joe Ardito will conduct an AARP safe driving course at the school. Reduction in insurance premiums and point reduction off license as a result of taking the course.
