Minutes of the Lavallette Voters an Taxpayers Meeting of June 26, 2009
The meeting was called to order by LVT President Joe Marcianti. Officers and Directors present
were Lach Cameron, Alice Bass, Celeste Brockwell, Ann Gorga and Joe Ardito. Absent was Sara Ardito.
Minutes and Treasurer's Report were accepted as read.
Membership: 663 paid memberships as of June 26, 2009. Ann will begin calling those who
have not yet renewed. We also have quite a few new memberships.
Correspondence:
- Contacted Senator Ciesla's office for an update on Assemblyman Gusciora's Bills A3490 and A3690 to consolidate towns. Nothing new has been done and the legislature is going into recess for the summer.
- An inquiry was made to our website manager about sending e-mails to our members. We would have to establish an e-mail data base, have someone to update the information, and the e-mails would be sent out in batches over a period of time to guard against mass e-mails being sent out as spam. Presently, we do not have a volunteer to establish nor maintain an e-mail data base.
Municipal:
- Tax collection for last year was at 99%. This year, it is at 97.2%.
- Two-hour parking in the business section did not materialize as a whole. Each business can request a sign be posted in front of their business.
- Geese dropping problem this summer at the Gazebo
- Use of mercury-fluorescent light bulbs as a cost-saving measure is in question due to the potential danger of the mercury gas when disposing of used bulbs.
- Seaside Heights offered a used bus to Lavallette, however, Lavallette just purchased a used bus for $15,500.
Lavallette Business Association will contribute to the cost for July fireworks.
Advertising on the Beach-update: LVT has voluntarily dismissed the Action against the Borough
of Lavallette and Kerwin Communications. Due to public opposition from all organizations in town,
the Borough Council passed a resolution to negotiate a settlement with Kerwin Communications to
cancel a contract to advertise on the back of Lifeguard stands and the Lifeguard Tower. The
settlement amount is $10,354.46.
LVT will request an itemized list of the settlement costs.
LVT approved the final payment for attorney fees of $1,482.43 for the Action brought against
Kerwin and the Borough of Lavallette.
Approval of $378.32 for LVT liability insurance.
Appointment of LVT Committee members will remain the same.
Postponement of LVT's President's report until July.
August meeting is scheduled the same night as the LVT proposed dinner.
The August meeting will be cancelled in lieu of the dinner.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
