Minutes of the Lavallette Voters and Taxpayers Association meeting of May 22, 2009
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Marcianti. Other officers and Directors were
1st V.P. Lach Cameron, Secretary Celeste Brockwell and Directors Joe Ardito and Sara Ardito.
Absent was Treasurer Alice Bass.
The minutes were accepted as read.
There was no Treasurer's report due to the absence of Treasurer Alice Bass.
Membership: 646 paid memberships-ahead of last year at this time.
Correspondence:
- Letter to Assemblyman Gusciora to remove Lavallette from any consolidation Bill. His response was to amend the Bill 3690 which includes Lavallette in the "Donut Hole" consolidation, but did not mention amending Bill 3490 which proposes to merge Lavallette with Seaside Heights, Seaside Park and Mantoloking. LVT will continue to keep on top of this. LVT will contact Senator Ciesla's office to keep informed.
- President Joe Marcianti's letter representing LVT in opposition to consolidation appeared in the Asbury Park Press
- Received a letter to participate in Memorial Day Services.
Scholarship committee: LVT has received double the scholarship applications than in
former years. Celeste Brockwell was appointed to replace Lach Cameron due to his inability
to continue to serve at this time.
LVT Dinner update: August 21st has been reserved with the caterer. Approved were a
$200 deposit to the caterer and an additional cost of $500 anticipated for costs of printing
and postage to mail flyer to members.
Parking committee: The committee has not met-a feeling that their job is
done-questionable. Council approved 2 hour parking for businesses but the State has not
approved it -may not be ready by summer.
School report: Two incumbents won re-election to the School Board.
Lavallette Business Association (LBA):
LBA in complete agreement with LVT in opposition to advertising on the Beach.
Quik-Stop-a new business in town has replaced Quick Check-invited to join LBA.
Municipal:
- New garbage/recycle dates/locations announced
- Rescinding of contract for advertising on the beach-settlement amount to be determined
- Bicycle committee formed to study unsafe bike issues
- Resident made recommendations to Mayor and Council about Planning Board issues which need to be addressed.
- Improvements to Route 35 North-drainage, curbing, paving may be possible with federal stimulus money.
- Attempting to reduce distances for parking from stop signs to provide more parking
- No change in bike hours on Boardwalk-continues from 5 a.m.-10 a.m.
- Budget not flat-increase of $6-$7 in municipal taxes per property owner on average assessment
- Fee of $4,500 has been reduced to $1,500 for permit for residents wishing to install solar panels
- Application for single taxi to operate in Lavallette
- Boardwalk re-construction completed
LVT Elections were as follows:
President: Joe Marcianti (one year)
Directors: Joe Ardito, Alice Bass, Celeste Brockwell (two years-2009-2011)
Update on action in opposition to advertising on the Beach: The Borough and the
advertising agency, Kerwin Communications, are negotiating a settlement. LVT was justified
in bringing the suit due to the 45 day time limit to challenge the contract. LVT felt it
had to institute the action to make sure the Borough took action to rescind the contract with Kerwin.
Memorial Day ceremonies: LVT Directors Joe Ardito and Ann Gorga will present a wreath donated by LVT.
