Minutes of the Lavallette Voters and Taxpayers meeting November 21, 2008
The meeting was called to order by President Joe Marcianti. All Officers and Directors were present:
1st V.P. Lach Cameron, Treasurer Alice Bass, Secretary Celeste Brockwell and Directors Ann Gorga and Sara Ardito.
The Minutes and Treasurer's reports were accepted as read.
Correspondence: Announcement of the Fire House sponsored Oyster Dinner and
wreath sale to take place in December.
Membership: 692 paid memberships for 2008
Municipal report:
$1,050,000 total appropriations for boardwalk replacement
Traffic light at Route 35 South and New York Ave. anticipated before summer 2009
Crossing guards at several locations to return for summer season
Ordinance passed on 1st reading related to setbacks on Route 35 south and corner properties. Residents may have an option to choose either a 5' or 10' setback on the Route 35 south. Current ordinance requires homeowners in this area to have two 15' setbacks.
2 hour parking signs on Route 35 north in the business district considered. Cost: $250 per sign. Determining who in that area wants them and who will pay for them
4% cap on municipal budget, 4% elimination of state aid and increased costs of health and pension benefits presents a budgetary challenge
Bids for purchase of a new garbage truck too high, will re-bid.
Two more vehicles for public works were purchased for $1 each; no information on cost for repairs to these vehicles
Several law suits are facing the borough-an unresolved issue within the police department, a water usage dispute with a resident and a worker related issue in the Department of Public Works.
Windmills are not allowed to be installed on rooftops; restricted to the height of residences to 30'
Additional cell antennas will be installed on the water tower for an annual leasing fee of $33,000.
Potential for advertising on the back of lifeguard stands for revenue producing
2009 may do an energy audit; Beginning in January 2009, bills can be paid online: taxes, water, sewer and electric.
A resolution was proposed by Mayor/Council in opposition to school consolidation
Proclamation by Council for Lavallette resident Sophie Zavistowski celebrating her 100th birthday.

According to initial reports, state mandated school consolidation for smaller schools would have a huge
detrimental affect on the school tax portion for Lavallette taxpayers. The possibility of school
taxes doubling in Lavallette, Point Pleasant Beach and Bayhead were to be consolidated.
LVT will send a letter to the Lavallette Board of Education requesting an informational meeting for
all residents to hear the facts.
Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest will be Saturday December 20th. Prizes for 1st 2nd and
3rd place will be $100, $50. and $25. respectively.
LVT parking committee representative has moved. LVT will recommend Joe Ardito to
Mayor/Council as LVT's parking representative
