Minutes of the Lavallette Voters and Taxpayers meeting September 19, 2008
(The August 2008 meeting was cancelled due to vacations)
The September 19th meeting was called to order by LVT President Joe Marcianti. Officers
and Directors present were Lach Cameron, Alice Bass, Celeste Brockwell, Ann Gorga and Sara Ardito.
A short Executive Board meeting was held to address re-scheduling of Candidate's Night from the 3rd
Friday in October to October 10th due to a scheduling conflict of two Council Candidates.
- Candidate's Night will be October 10th at 7 p.m.
- Letters will be sent to the four Candidates
- Half of the cost of refreshments will be shared with co-sponsors of the evening, West Point Island Civic Association, as agreed to by their president, Don Storms.
The regular meeting of LVT began at 7:30 pm.
The minutes and Treasurer's Report were accepted as read.
Correspondence was from one of our scholarship recipients once again thanking us.
Membership: 687 paid families
Municipal:
- An ordinance passed establishing fees for use of the Gazebo and pavilions and fees for the mayor and council president for conducting weddings
- An ordinance passed providing the electrical and water departments with a fee schedule to charge additional fees for extraordinary costs
- Parking fees for residents without driveways were established at $250 for the first year and $150 yearly thereafter
- Issue of bikers riding in the wrong direction on Route 35 in the summer. 140 verbal warnings issued, but only 5 summons' Some want extended bike riding hours on the boardwalk.
- Report of 8/4/08-beach sales down $18,000 from 2007
- Bond ordinance to provide for an additional garbage truck and cargo van for electrical department
- LVT requested Mayor and Council to establish e-mails-rejected.
- Discussion of solar and wind energy. Present local permit for solar energy is $4,500-needs to be revisited.
- Planning Board to have second expert to discuss distances between liquor licenses and "uses" allowed for a single property within the commercial district
- Concern with the possibility of the State pushing to consolidate small school districts
- Heritage Day was cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled.
School Board Report of August 27, 2008:
The Mayor and Council were invited by the School Board to inform them of the issue of small school
consolidation and the potential for a huge school tax increase to the taxpayers of Lavallette if this
should materialize.
LVT Annual Membership dues for 2009 will stay as is: $10 per family membership
Additional Directors are needed for LVT. Please volunteer.
