The Planning Board responded to LVT's letter requesting information about the planning board activities. The Planning Board said that LVT can send a representative to their meetings and request a copy of their minutes.
Alice felt that Councilman Lamb was not receptive to opening the beaches for Memorial Day weekend as other surrounding towns have done. Memorial Day weekend was a big source of income for surrounding towns as reported by Alice Bass following her inquiry into neighboring beach communities.
Lavallette has 28 beach openings. Closing every other beach opening (14 of them) and having checkers at alternate beach openings were also a concern. Would this have an adverse affect on renters not wanting to be inconvenienced? Bill Kinney also felt that the DEP should be contacted to see if there were any issues with them that needed to be addressed as a result of this potential plan to close alternate beach access ways. Another suggestion was to have beach checkers only on weekends at every beach opening. The committee plans to meet again.
An ordinance pertaining to lot size on West Point Island was introduced on first reading and passed by a vote of 4-1. The purpose of the ordinance was to prevent subdivisions that would reduce lot sizes and cram more houses into smaller areas.
Some concerns with the proposed ordinances were the potential for creating hardships for people who own property that would have to apply for variances for future construction, possible restrictions on building as a result of natural disasters and some corner lots that may be adversely affected by the ordinance.
The second and final reading of this ordinance will take place at the council meeting of March 26th at 7 p.m. at Borough Hall.
The Planning Board will not meet until after the Special Election. Presently they have a quorum, but if someone is unable to attend, there is no quorum.
